Programs for Children
Below is a list of the programs we offer on a regular basis. Check our Online Program Calendar or call the Children's Department at 201.939.8600 x6 for specific program details.
Friday Family Fun Nights
Offered about once a month, professional entertainers dazzle kids (& their parents!) in the Library's Main Reading Room.
Story Times
After all, who doesn't love to hear a good tale? A craft or other special activity follows the story.
Craft Programs
Children make the coolest stuff to celebrate the upcoming holidays and other special events.
Book Bingo
Register early...this program fills up quickly!
Library Tales
Every 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-grade class in Rutherford's public schools visits the library four times during the school year. The students come on the school bus with their teachers to hear good stories, check out books and movies, and make the library their own for an hour or so.
Summer & Winter Reading Clubs
Children are given a booklet in which they record any reading they do. During each library visit children show their booklet to Children's Room staff and small rewards are given depending on the amount of reading that has been done since the last visit. Being read to also counts so participation by non-readers is encouraged. Our Children's Department also offers a summer full of fun activities. Programs fill up quickly so don't wait until the last minute to register.
Class Visits
Please contact our Children's Librarian directly to inquire about special library visits for private schools, nursery schools, and pre-school groups.
