The Friends of the Rutherford Public Library has played a significant role in the development of the Library and its facilities and programs. Fundraising efforts include book sales, an annual membership drive, and the sale of merchandise. Donations to the Friends are tax deductible since it is a 501(c)3 organization. |

Proceeds from this year’s efforts will be used primarily to maintain the high level of children’s programming offered at the Library. In past years the Friends have funded other special projects, such as the purchase of new computers and furniture. In 2013 the Friends will provide 100% of the funding for children’s programs. |

In 2012 funding from the Friends provided support for 79 programs attended by 3,169 participants. The high level of children’s programming at the Rutherford Public Library would not be possible without the support of the Friends. The James Hands Map of – In 1947 Rutherford resident James Hands created The James Hands Map of Rutherford History. His hand-drawn, intricately lettered blend of local history and artistry makes this map a unique visual interpretation of Rutherford history. A charter member of the original Friends, Mr. Hands restored the map and donated it to the Friends and the Library as a fundraiser. Full-size prints, numbered and signed by the artist are available for purchase at the Library. |
