GENEALOGY DATABASES:
Come to the Library and check out the ANCESTRY Library Edition database.
Here you can search the US Census through 1930, Naturalization records, the
US Immigration Collection, the Social Security Death Index, Military records, and much more. This database is only available in the Library. Click here to begin searching Ancestry. (Library Only)
The Library also offers HeritageQuest Online, a genealogy and family history database. It features the United States Census, newspaper obituaries, PERSI (PERiodical Source Index), a subject index to genealogy and local history periodicals from around the world, and more.

Don’t forget to check out the New York Times Historical Database from Proquest (and provided by BCCLS) that allows you to search the Times from the library computers or from home with a valid library card. Here you can find obituaries and other types of source information.

SCRAPBOOK OF RUTHERFORD MEMORIES:

GENEALOGY LINKS:
Ellis Island (free registration) - Search for naturalization information and see the ships which brought your ancestors to the US.
Stephen Morse’s website provides alternate ways to access information at some genealogy sites such as Ancestry.
Cyndi’s List – a comprehensive site and a good place to start your research.
Rootsweb –says it’s the “oldest and largest free genealogy site.”
Family History Library resources from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Says it offers “the largest collection of free family history, family tree and genealogy records in the world.” Must register (free) to access all web site resources and features.

For other countries: try using a search engine such as Google and searching with the words National Archives and the name of the country.
VITAL STATISTICS:
National Center for Health Statistics - website provides links to vital records, arranged by state.
