The Children’s Room

Our Children’s Department always has lots of fun programs going on. Below is a list of the current programs and dates:

Drop-in Story Time

Story Time with Miss Jane is held on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:30-11 AM. It includes stories, songs and fun! Story Time is for children from infants to 5 years old and their parents or caregivers. The dates for Story Time in September are: Sept. 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, and 28. Registration is never required for Story Time, and all are welcome!



Chess Club

All children ages 7-12 are welcome to sign up for chess! This program is led by an experienced, adult chess player. It offers an opportunity for participants to learn new tips and improve their chess playing strategy. This program runs for six weeks, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 13, and continuing through Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 4:30-5:30 PM. Registration is required for chess.






On Tuesday, Sept. 12, from 4-4:45 PM, children ages 4 and up are invited to come build with LEGO blocks! This funand informal program is a great way for children to exercise their creativity. We provide the LEGOs, you bring your imagination! Registration is required.





Zumba for Kids

Jessica was such a hit this summer, we’ve invited her back to teach Zumba this month! Zumba will be held Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 4PM. The program is for children ages 6-11. Children should wear sneakers and get ready to move! Registration is required.



Paws to Read

PawsDoes your new reader want to get practice with a very good and very furry listener? Rodney, our resident registered Bright and Beautiful therapy dog, will visit the library on Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 4-5 PM. Children who can read even a little bit and want the chance to practice their skills can sign up for a 15-minute time slot with Rodney. Registration is required for Paws to Read. Children’s Afternoon Movie

This month’s Friday afternoon movie will be held Friday, Sept. 29, at 3:45PM. We will be watching Moana. This film is rated PG. All children are welcome to bring a snack and a friend! Children under the age of 7 are required to be accompanied by a caregiver. Come watch this new Disney classic!




The Children’s Department of the Rutherford Public Library will present “Pumpkins!” on Monday, Oct. 16, from 4-5 PM. This event will teach you about pumpkins and give you a chance to paint and decorate your own pumpkin to take home. This program is for ages 3-11 and registration is required. This program is being generously funded by the Friends of the Library.
