The Children’s Room
Our Children’s Department always has lots of fun programs going on. Below is a list of the current programs and dates:
Storytime with Miss Jane is held on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:30-11 AM. It includes stories, songs and fun! Storytime is for children from infants to 5 years old and their parents or caregivers. The dates for Storytime in March are: March 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, and 29. There will be no Storytime There will also be an after-school story time on Thursday, March 29, from 4:45-5:15 PM. Registration is never required for Storytime, and all are welcome! Make some new friends and get ready for reading!
Miss Fran will again bring her singing, strumming, dancing and fun for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers this month. She will be visiting Fridays, March 16 and 23, from 11:15-11:45 AM. No registration is required.
Our CoderDojo program teaches children how to code and develop computer programs and games, and to explore technology in an informal and creative environment. Our next session of CoderDojo will be held on Thursday, March 8 and 15, from 4:30-5:30 PM. There will be another session on Thursdays, March 29 and April 5 and 12, also from 4:30-5:30 PM. This program is for children ages 6-10, and registration is required. Those who attend must plan to attend all four days. If possible, please have the child attend with a laptop.
We will be making a St. Patrick’s Day craft on Monday, March 12, from 4-4:30 PM. This program is for ages 5-11. Registration is required.
Paws to Read
Does your new reader want to get practice with a very good and very furry listener? Rodney and Yogi will be visiting the library this month! Rodney, a Bright and Beautiful registered therapy dog, will come Monday, March 26, from 4-5 PM. Yogi will visit the library on Tuesday, March 13, from 4-5 PM. Children who can read even a little bit and want the chance to practice their skills can sign up for a 15-minute time slot with either dog. Registration is required for Paws to Read. Children who are 8, 9 and 10 years old are invited to register for these workshops. Students will follow step-by-step instructions to construct and code their robots using suggested programs with LEGO Robotics Kits and laptops. Students will learn engineering and robotics concepts as well as cooperation and teamwork. This program will be held Wednesdays, March 14 and 21, from 4:30-5:30 PM. A second session will be held Wednesdays, March 28 and April 4, also from 4:30-5:30 PM. Registration is required and this workshop fills up fast.
This program is for children ages 4 and up. It will be held Monday, March 19, from 4-4:30 PM. We provide the LEGOs, your child brings their imagination! Registration is required.
This month’s Friday afternoon matinee will be a viewing of Despicable Me 3. It will be held Friday, March 16, from 3:45-5:15 PM. Children ages 4 and up are welcome to come and bring a snack and a friend! An adult caregiver must stay with any child under the age of 7. No registration is required.
Family Show Time
The Youth Stages Acting Company will visit the library to present “Two Marys, Five Jacks, and One Very Big Shoe,” a clever retelling of the rhymes of Mother Goose, on Friday, March 23, at 4 PM. All are invited to sing, finger-play, and act out some nursery rhymes with the Youth Stages performers. This program is recommended for ages 3-8. No registration is required.
